HS Code Lookup — Find the Right Harmonized System Code for Any Product

The Harmonized System (HS) code decides how much duty you pay and which compliance rules apply. Pick the wrong code and you face audits, penalties, and delayed shipments. Pick the right one and you can predict landed cost with confidence.

Calculate your import duty

Describe your product. Get HS code + duty rates for US, EU, UK, Canada, Brazil, Mexico in seconds.

What an HS code is

The Harmonized System is a 6-digit product taxonomy maintained by the World Customs Organization. Every country that imports goods uses it. The US extends it to 10 digits (HTSUS), the EU to 8 (CN codes) — but the first six are the same everywhere.

Example: 8517.62 covers wireless communication apparatus. The same code means the same category in the US, Germany, Japan, and Brazil.

Why accuracy matters

A one-digit misclassification can mean a 20-percentage-point swing in duty. Cotton t-shirts (6109.10) get charged 16.5%. Man-made fiber t-shirts (6109.90) get 32%. Misclassifying on your commercial invoice gets caught during inspection and costs you penalties + back-duties on prior shipments.

Beyond duty, HS codes trigger compliance rules: wireless devices need FCC certification, lithium batteries need UN 38.3 testing, children's products need CPSIA documentation.

How to use this lookup

Describe what you're shipping in plain language — product, materials, key features. The AI extracts the specs that matter (wireless, battery, material, weight) and proposes the HS-6 code with its reasoning plus up to 3 alternates.

Always verify the suggestion by reading the chapter notes for the proposed heading. Our classifier is calibrated but not infallible. For shipments over $2,500, get a customs broker to confirm.

Frequently asked questions

Is HS code the same as HTS code?
The first 6 digits are the same. HTS (US) and TARIC (EU) extend to 10 and 8 digits respectively with country-specific detail.
What if my product could fit multiple codes?
The classifier returns alternates. Read the chapter notes — the General Rules of Interpretation (GRI 3b) say the more specific heading wins.
Can I use this for customs declarations?
Use it as a first pass. For high-value shipments, confirm with a licensed customs broker. We show reasoning so brokers can sanity-check quickly.
