US duty rates range from 0% to over 50% depending on the product and country of origin. Knowing the rate before you issue a purchase order is the difference between a profitable SKU and a loss.

How US tariffs work
The US charges duty based on the HTSUS (Harmonized Tariff Schedule). Most rates are ad valorem — a percentage of the declared customs value. Some are specific (a flat dollar amount per unit) or compound.
On top of the base rate, some goods face additional duties: Section 301 (added to many products from China, currently 7.5–25%), antidumping duties on specific origin-product pairs, and countervailing duties. The calculator applies base HTSUS; Section 301 surcharges are flagged where they apply.
What we calculate
Per unit: duty rate, estimated duty in USD, federal fees (Merchandise Processing Fee for formal entries, Harbor Maintenance Fee for ocean), and the total landed cost.
What we don't yet include: freight, insurance, broker fees, warehousing. These vary too much by lane and shipper to estimate reliably. Add them from your own quotes.
Who this is for
Amazon FBA sellers pricing new SKUs. Small importers confirming broker invoices. Freight forwarders sanity-checking declared values. Product sourcing teams comparing origin countries.
Frequently asked questions
- Does this include Section 301 tariffs?
- The base HTSUS rate is applied. Section 301 surcharges are surfaced as risk flags when the HS code is on the affected list. Always verify the current USTR exclusion list for your code.
- What's the de minimis threshold?
- Shipments valued at $800 or less to a single person in one day enter duty-free under Section 321. The calculator still shows what duty would apply if the threshold didn't.
