Import Duty From China to US — 2026 Rates for Common Products

China is still the largest source of US imports despite Section 301 tariffs that added 7.5–25% to many categories in 2018–2019. Effective duty rates on Chinese goods now often double what they were ten years ago. Knowing the rate for your exact product is the difference between a margin and a loss.

Why these rates are changing

Section 301 exclusions expire and get renewed on rolling timelines. USTR publishes updates quarterly. If your HS code moves onto or off a list, your landed cost changes overnight.

This is why we flag changes in saved SKUs — tariff data is versioned and you can watch a code for updates. Use the calculator below to check your specific product against current data.

Considering alternative origin countries

For many codes, Vietnam, India, and Mexico offer lower effective duty after Section 301 is included. The calculator's arbitrage hint (when available) flags cheaper-origin alternatives. Sourcing diversification is slow work but the cost delta often pays for it within a quarter.

Frequently asked questions

Are the Section 301 tariffs permanent?
They are extended periodically. Exclusions come and go on specific product-HS pairs. Check USTR's current exclusions page before finalizing a purchase order.
What about the $800 de minimis from China?
Under Section 321, individual shipments under $800 enter duty-free. This has been under review — in 2026 several proposals target removing de minimis for Chinese-origin goods.
